Latest news from the Art & Craft Academy

Powertex fabric and textile hardener is an environmentally friendly water-based liquid sculpting medium. It hardens absorbent materials such as textiles, paper, cardboard, fabrics, leather and fibreglass and can be easily combined with self-hardening clays, concrete, stone, ceramic, wood, sand and Stone Art, making it an incredibly versatile medium the possibilities of which are limited only by your imagination and creativity.

It's hugely popular throughout the world – just Google 'Powertex' to see what we mean – but it's new to the UK because its not until very recently that Brit Wellens commenced trading with Powertex British Isles Ltd. We saw Brit demonstrating at a recent trade fair, and fell in love with the product straight away.

Powertex is used for making sculptures, paintings, decorative objects and jewellery. Powertex is a white liquid that dries to a matt finish showing the original patterns and colours of the hardened fabrics. You can create any colour by simply dissolving Powercolor  pigment in a little warm water and stirring in the Powertex. Once dry your artwork can be decorated with oil paints, acrylics, latex or Powercolor mixed with Easy Varnish. This combination makes the paint instantly waterproof so your work can be displayed in both an interior AND exterior setting. The lead, bronze, terracotta, ivory, black and green are pre-coloured and already water proof.

Art & Craft Academy director Steve Grant said  “Powertex is a massive hit just about everywhere – there are distributors in Kuwait, Malta and Slovakia – and having seen Brit demonstrate it I can see why. We think it's going to be as popular here as everywhere else, and so a series of Art & Craft Academy programmes that will take people from complete newbie to accomplished Powertex creator is right at the very heart of what we do. As a new brand ourselves, we're particularly pleased to be partnering with another 'new' brand.”

The first programme – An Introduction to Powertex – is scheduled for release in September, with further programmes on Painting with Powertex and Powertex Stoneart to follow before Christmas.

Below is a short demo video (4.20) from Powertex in Belgium that provides a pretty good idea of what we’re in for here in the UK!
